“Long live the movies.”
That’s how Paramount Skydance Chief David Ellison opened his presentation at CinemaCon, the annual film industry event in Las Vegas, on Thursday.
The sentiment is one that rang true all week, as studios, including Paramount, brought their top stars and directors to the stage to give sneak peeks at their upcoming slates.
Here’s a look at some of the buzziest titles that were teased.
Disney
“The Mandalorian and Grogu”
Baby Yoda is making his way to the big screen, and filmmaker Jon Favreau is ready to introduce him to “a brand new audience.”
The film, which also stars Pedro Pascal and Sigourney Weaver, hits theaters on May 22.
“Toy Story 5”

The beloved Pixar “Toy Story” franchise is tackling technology.
Viewers learned at CinemaCon that the film’s fifth installment shows a young kid entranced by her Lilly Pad device, rather than her toy friends. And age has caught up to the toys, as we now see Woody sporting a bald spot.
Tom Hanks and Tim Allen resurrect their iconic roles as Woody and Buzz in the film, debuts on June 19.
“Whalefall”
Disney’s 20th Century Studios is adapting the Daniel Klaus novel, which follows a scuba diver (played by Austin Abrams) who is swallowed alive by a sperm whale.
Kraus co-wrote the script with director Brian Duffield. The footage that was shown at CinemaCon was well received by those in the room.
But movie-goers will have to wait until Oct. 16 to see it in theaters.
“Avengers: Doomsday”
Marvel Studios head Kevin Feige and star Robert Downey Jr. gave viewers a first look at the Marvel Cinematic Universe villain, Doctor Doom.
Downey Jr, of course, is known for his role as Tony Stark’s “Iron Man.” His return to the MCU as a totally new character came as a shock when it was first announced at San Diego Comic-Con in 2024.
The movie “picks up where ‘Avengers: Endgame left off,’” Feige said. The film is being released on Dec. 18, the same day as “Dune 3,” prompting some fans to already declare the combination: “Dunesday.”
Paramount
“Top Gun 3”
Maverick is back in the pilot’s seat.
Tom Cruise will officially return for a third installment of the film franchise. Producer Jerry Bruckheimer is also on board.
The original film, which followed Cruise as the hotshot fighter pilot, was released in 1986. Joseph Kosinski’s sequel, “Top Gun: Maverick,” became a blockbuster hit in 2022.
“Jackass: Best and Last”
Johnny Knoxville and the rest of the “Jackass” crew are once again bringing their shenanigans to theaters.
At CinemaCon, where the trailer for the fifth installment was shown, Knoxville reflected on the franchise.
“‘Jackass’ means a hell of a lot for me,” he said. “We knew we were making the last one, so we went extra hard to make sure this was also our best ‘Jackass’ film ever.”
The movie will debut on June 26.
Warner Bros.
“Digger”
Cruise stars in Alejandro Iñárritu’s new dark comedy, which follows an oil executive named Digger Rockwell.
In the footage shown at CinemaCon, Cruise is seen sporting gray hair and a potbelly, while rocking a Southern accent. Iñárritu, who co-wrote the script, sang the actor’s praises.
“We know he’s fearless,” Iñárritu said. “The stunts, the plane, the jumps. But I have to say, embodying this character is another kind of fearless. I think this role may be his most challenging.”
It’s set for an Oct. 2 release.
“Practical Magic 2”

Nicole Kidman and Sandra Bullock are bringing the magic back to theaters this September. The actors are teaming up again for a sequel to their 1998 cult classic.
“Why do we come here, Nicole?” Bullock joked at CinemaCon, referencing Kidman’s viral AMC ad.
“We come to this place for magic,” Kidman replied, reciting a line from the ad that also nods to their film’s title.
“Dune: Part III”
Stars Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya and Jason Momoa joined filmmaker Denis Villeneuve to introduce a preview of the first seven minutes of their sci-fi epic to attendees.
The third installment picks up 17 years after the prior installment, with Chalamet’s Paul Atreides ruling the galaxy while in a political marriage to Florence Pugh’s Princess Irulan.
“I didn’t want to walk in my own footsteps,” Villaneueve, who walked onto the CinemaCon stage to the tune of about 50 Fremen warriors chanting, said. “I wanted to do something new.”
It debuts Dec. 18.
Sony
“Spiderman: Brand New Day”
Tom Holland is back as Peter Parker, Spiderman and “Maynard.”
In a clip at CinemaCon, viewers learned that Spidey’s taken on a new moniker to greet his former love MJ (played by his real-life love, Zendaya). She, of course, has no idea who he is, because the last we saw the hero, he had sacrificed his identity to save everyone else.
The new film comes out July 31.
“The Social Reckoning”
The sequel to Aaron Sorkin’s hit 2010 film takes place 17 years after the original.
Jeremy Strong (of “Succession” fame) plays Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg (taking over the reigns from Jesse Eisenberg).
“A while back, we told a story about a college kid who built a website in his dorm and connected the world. Well, as you might have noticed, a couple of things have changed since that dream exploded into a global corporation,” Sorkin said. “There isn’t a life that Facebook’s algorithm hasn’t touched, and that influence has reshaped everything.”
Mikey Madison, Jeremy Allen White and Bill Burr also star in the film, which is being released Oct. 9.
Universal
NBCUniversal is the parent company of Universal Pictures and NBC News.
“The Odyssey”

Christopher Nolan’s “The Odyssey,” an adaptation of Homer’s ancient Greek epic, is among the most star-studded projects to hit theaters this year.
The film features Matt Damon, Charlize Theron, Jon Bernthal, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, Tom Holland, Robert Pattinson, Lupita Nyong’o, Benny Safdie, Mia Goth, Elliot Page, Samantha Morton, Ryan Hurst and Travis Scott.
“Why ‘The Odyssey?’ ‘The Odyssey’ is a story that has fascinated generation after generation for 3,000 years,” Nolan said. “It’s not a story. It’s the story.”
At CinemaCon, attendees got a sneak peak at footage featuring a Trojan Horse attack. The movie, the first motion picture shot entirely on IMAX film, is being released on July 17.
“Disclosure Day”
Steven Spielberg made his first visit to CinemaCon this week to tout his new science fiction film about aliens.
The film, which lands in theaters June 12, stars Colman Domingo, Emily Blunt, Josh O’Connor, Colin Firth, Wyatt Russell and Eve Hewson.
But Spielberg was not quick to divulge many details about the project.
“This movie is going to answer questions and cause you to ask more questions,” Spielberg said, describing it as “ an experience.”
“Minions and Monsters”
The latest Minions film from Illumination follows the small, yellow creatures’ journey of taking over Hollywood.
Allison Janney, Jesse Eisenberg, Zoey Deutch and Trey Parker are part of the voice cast.
The film debuts July 1.
Amazon MGM Studios
“The Thomas Crown Affair”
Michael B. Jordan, fresh off his Oscar win, directs and stars the film, which is a reimagining of the 1968 project of the same name.
Jordan’s character, a billionaire, faces off against a former FBI agent (played by Adria Arjona). Jon Batiste composed the score.
The remake will open on March 5, 2027.
“Spaceballs: The New One”
Mel Brooks’s beloved 1987 cult classic is getting a sequel.
The film, which Amazon said it will release in April 2027, brings back original cast members such as Rick Moranis, Daphne Zuniga, and Bill Pullman.
Josh Gad, Keke Palmer and Lewis Pullman will also star.
