Suspects in deadly Connecticut home invasion arrested in attack that rocked beach town

A suspect involved in a deadly home invasion in a coastal Connecticut beach town was captured by U.S. Marshals in New York following a two-month investigation.

On Tuesday, the U.S. Marshals New York/New Jersey Regional Fugitive Task Force (NYNJRFTF) announced they had arrested Ivan Barias-Florimon, 24, in the Bronx after they identified him last week as the second suspect involved in the June 3 shooting death of Frederick Raymond Werner, 69.

Werner and his wife were shot inside their Milford, Connecticut home on June 3 after police say Barias-Florimon and another suspect, Stuar Lopez-Reyes, 25, broke into the couple’s home on East Broadway and began shooting at the victims.

Werner’s wife was shot in the head, and is still recovering in the hospital, FOX61 reports.

Barias-Florimon is facing charges of:

Felony murder
Conspiracy to commit murder
Home invasion
Attempted murder
First-degree assault on an elderly person

Milford Police said the attack was not a “random act of violence” and may have been targeted.

U.S. Marshals, along with Milford and New Haven police, arrested Lopez-Reyes on Thursday in connection to the crime.

An obituary for Werner said “Fred embraced life to the fullest. He loved spending time on the golf course, boating on the water, relaxing by his pool, and soaking up the sunshine. The ocean was one of his favorite places, where he found peace and happiness.”

New York Criminal Court records indicate Barias-Florimon was arraigned Tuesday, when a judge ordered that he be remanded without bail. He is due back in court Aug. 18.

As for Lopez-Reyes, he is being held in a Bridgeport, Connecticut, jail cell on a $3 million bond and is due to appear in court on Aug. 11.

Werner is survived by his wife, his sister, two daughters, and three grandchildren.
