LIV Golf CEO says league is hopeful it can ‘do right by’ vendors suing them over alleged missed payments

This week’s LIV Golf event in Indianapolis is not only the finale of the 2026 campaign, but it will also serve as the final event of this current iteration of the breakaway circuit. There is even a possibility that Indianapolis is the final stop LIV Golf ever makes, with its future entirely uncertain.

As it has been for the majority of LIV’s four-year history, money, not golf, is the topic of conversation heading into another tournament week. Specifically in Indianapolis, the money talk centers around alleged missed vendor payments and a pending lawsuit.

Earlier this week, Front Office Sports reported that Fresh Tape Media was suing LIV Golf for missed payments from its work producing the league’s preseason media days. Fresh Tape’s founder, Jared Kleinstein, publicly called out LIV on social media, writing, “When a small business does the work, it deserves to be paid for it.”

While addressing the media in Indianapolis on Wednesday, LIV Golf CEO Scott O’Neil was specifically asked about Kleinstein’s statement and alleged missed payments, and didn’t necessarily deliver a message to cool off rumors and speculation.

“Look, I come from a family of entrepreneurs, a family of small business entrepreneurs and know the challenge that that is,” the CEO said when asked about the issue. “So what I would say to them is we’re doing everything we can to make sure we can do right by them and the work they committed, and I hope we can.

“For the next generation, it will certainly be a different business with a different process.”

Fresh Tape Media is reportedly suing LIV Golf for $1.2 million in unpaid dues and interest.

O’Neil stating that he has “hope” that alleged missed payments can be made only adds to the idea that LIV Golf if simply out of money at this point.

In April, the Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) announced that it would no longer fund the league beyond the 2026 season. Since then, LIV has cancelled the LIV Team Championship in Michigan, moved the season finale up to Indianapolis, and slashed the individual purse in the event from $20 million to $10.1 million.

Earlier this month, O’Neil shared news of an unnamed investor being secured to keep LIV Golf afloat into 2027. Any specific details of the investor have not been shared.

The circuit has announced that ‘LIV 2.0’ will include players holding a majority of equity and that the plan is to have 10 total tournaments, with five taking place in the United States and another five being held across the globe.
