Plane with Amazon logo crashes outside Miami airport

A plane with Amazon’s logo on its tail crashed just outside Miami International Airport on Sunday afternoon.

Details of the crash were not immediately available, but video showed plumes of smoke billowing from the site. It appears that the aircraft crashed onto a road outside the airport.

A Boeing 767-300 cargo aircraft overran the runway around 2 p.m. ET while landing in Miami, according to the Federal Aviation Administration. The plane was arriving from San Juan, Puerto Rico.

The FAA identified the aircraft as a 21 Air flight. A spokesperson for Miami International Airport identified it as a Prime Air flight.

The website for 21 Air lists Prime Air, an Amazon company, as one of its customers. Amazon did not immediately respond to a request for comment.

All runways and taxiways at the Miami airport were closed due to a ground stop following the incident, the airport spokesperson said in a statement.

More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene, and firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that broke out as a result of the crash, the agency said in a statement. There are “multiple patients” involved in the incident, it added.
