As news of major concerts being canceled or postponed across the Middle East continues to roll in, Turkish superstar Tarkan’s Abu Dhabi concert has not been canceled – only rescheduled. Now, all eyes are on Etihad Arena on Nov. 27. Tarkan is once again preparing to demonstrate the reach of his star power beyond Türkiye’s borders.
The Middle East concert market is going through one of its most difficult periods in recent years. Concerts by international stars are being canceled, major productions are being pulled and organizers are being forced to rework their schedules.
Shakira’s scheduled appearance at the Offlimits Festival was canceled. Christina Aguilera’s Abu Dhabi concert was also among the major events to be called off.
Against this backdrop, Tarkan’s name is still on the poster.
And I think that is worth dwelling on.
Tarkan’s Abu Dhabi concert, originally scheduled for April 17, was not canceled; it was postponed to Nov. 27. Tickets already purchased remain valid for the new date.
This is where Tarkan’s difference becomes clear.
Türkiye has produced dozens of pop stars. We have seen songs rack up millions of streams, major advertising campaigns and social media records. But how many of our artists can put their name alone at the top of a poster in another country and draw thousands of people to a venue?
Very few.
Tarkan, however, has been doing exactly that for more than 30 years.
From Russia to Germany, and from the Balkans to the Middle East, his songs have a place in people’s memories. People do not simply remember “Şımarık”; they know the name Tarkan.
That is where the true value of a brand built over decades reveals itself.
It does not happen overnight.
And it certainly does not happen with one viral song.
The international recognition Tarkan has today is the result of decades of songs, concerts and music videos, as well as the pop-star identity he has built over the years.
What makes it even more remarkable is that he did it with songs in Turkish.
To me, that is the most valuable part.
He did not change his identity to reach the world. He did not try to become someone else. He sang in Turkish, and people in different countries sang those songs back to him.
Today, it has become easier to generate numbers in the music industry. Streaming figures are rising, follower counts are reaching the millions, and algorithms can carry a song to the other side of the world within days.
But concert tickets are still unforgiving.
People reach into their pockets, spend their own money and come to see you.
That is where Tarkan’s real power lies.
When he takes the stage at Etihad Arena on Nov. 27, he will not simply be performing a concert. He will be showing just how much weight one of Turkish pop music’s strongest brands abroad still carries after all these years.
Sometimes, we wait for someone from outside to tell us the value of what we already have.
There is no need for that with Tarkan.
More than 30 years of a career, concerts in different countries, songs that have crossed generations and a name that still stands alone at the top of major-venue posters.
Tarkan has nothing left to prove.
Because some artists require adjectives to explain their greatness.
With Tarkan, all you need to do is write his name.
