Dakota Johnson hopes to start a family after career kept her ‘gone for 20 years’

Dakota Johnson thought her life would look a lot different than it does now.

During a recent interview with Vogue, the 36-year-old actress spoke about her career and whether she sees herself starting a family, telling the outlet it’s something she really wants for herself.

“I really do. I d but for whatever reason, that’s the plan of the universe,” she said. “So I would love that. I hope that that happens for me. I’ve always felt, especially the last few years, that there is a soul that wants to come through. And I hope that I’m lucky enough to be able to do that.”

She went on to say that it can sometimes be hard to be around her friends and co-stars who have children or are starting their families when “things turned out differently than I thought,” but says she is still “hopeful for that.”

Johnson made a name for herself starring throughout the 2010s, starring in films including “The Social Network” and “21 Jump Street,” before landing the role of Anastasia Steele in “Fifty Shades of Grey,” which became her breakout role.

She continued building her resume, starring in films such as “Peanut Butter Falcon,” “Madame Web” and “The Materialists,” but it looks like she plans on slowing down soon.

“I’ve worked back-to-back for so long that now I have this deep calling to shift my perspective a bit and maybe have a bit more of a real life,” she said. “I’ve been gone for, like, 20 years. The people in my life are so used to me leaving for months at a time.”

Her main goal is to live her life authentically, noting, “I want to unfold and unfold and really lovingly embrace this life.”

Johnson is gearing up for the premiere of her latest movie, “Verity,” a psychological thriller based on the novel by Colleen Hoover, which also stars Josh Hartnett and Anne Hathaway.

The “Splitsville” actress plays Lowen Ashleigh in the film, a ghostwriter who is hired to finish writing a book series written by Verity Crawford after she suffers an injury, but soon finds things aren’t exactly as they seem.

“Michael Showalter, the director, would give me direction that was so extremely camp, and that’s not really me as an artist,” Johnson said about the role. “But it was so fun, and our references and guidelines were all these erotic thrillers that people are like, Okay, this is ridiculous, but I’m enjoying myself.”

Johnson is no stranger to the demands of Hollywood, as she comes from a family of acting royalty. Her mother is Academy Award-nominated actress, Melanie Griffith, and her father is “Miami Vice” star, Don Johnson. Her maternal grandmother is also actress Tippi Hedren.
