Samsun will host a strong international field when the Samsun Open WTA 125 brings several of the world’s leading women’s players to Türkiye’s Black Sea city next month.
Qualifying begins Oct. 4, with the main draw getting underway a day later. The weeklong tournament will conclude with the final on Oct. 11.
Six players ranked inside the world’s top 100 are included in the announced main draw, led by No. 85 Antonia Rüi. Emiliana Arango, ranked 88th, follows, with Simona Waltert at No. 89, Solana Sierra at No. 91, Oksana Selekhmeteva at No. 93 and Anna Blinkova at No. 95 also set to compete for the title.
The tournament will also feature members of Türkiye’s national women’s tennis team, adding a homegrown presence to an international field.
Berfu Cengiz will be among the Turkish players in action after winning the Ankara Open. Her appearance in Samsun will give local fans an opportunity to watch one of Türkiye’s successful players compete on home soil.
The tournament is being hosted by Samsun Metropolitan Municipality, which has also staged international men’s tennis in the city in recent months.
Samsun Metropolitan Municipality Mayor Halit Doğan said the city was excited to welcome another major international tennis event after previously hosting men’s players.
“We are once again excited and happy to host the Samsun Open WTA 125 Tennis Tournament in Samsun,” Doğan said. “We will welcome important female tennis players from different countries around the world and experience the excitement of an international sporting event together.”
Doğan said the tournament would further showcase Samsun’s sporting potential and provide a high-level competition for the city’s residents and visitors.
“Just a few months ago, we hosted men’s tennis players in Samsun and staged a very successful tournament,” he said. “Now, we will welcome some of the leading names in women’s tennis to our city.”
